TRIESTE – SIOT, manager of the oil terminal at the Port of Trieste, has entrusted Ocean srl with the prevention, monitoring and anti-pollution services for the stretch of water pertaining to its port terminal.
The agreement, says the Italian company of the TAL Group, which also manages the tank farm and the Italian section of the Transalpine Pipeline, was signed at the end of a tender.
For the Italian company Transalpine Pipeline, this is a strategic service, which consists of all pollution prevention activities, ensuring the continuous monitoring of the sea in the docking area of oil tankers and the prompt intervention in case of need, with the laying of the “panne” (floating devices that harness spills) and other technical actions that allow protecting the marine environment.
The service to Ocean has been contracted for the next 5 years: «This contract – declared Alessio Lilli, President of SIOT – is one of the most important in economic terms for the company and also one of the most important in terms of safety. We have confirmed Ocean’s choice at the end of a tender which has shown that the company, based in Trieste, has all the requirements to carry out this important service. The long duration of the contract is motivated by the need to work as a team, with highly technological means and devices, guaranteeing a 24-hour service. Ocean srl will operate with five vessels, technologies, and equipment to detect any event connected with crude oil spills.
