TRIESTE – Fincantieri has formalized its investment in WSense, an Italian scale-up specialized in deep tech solutions for underwater communication and monitoring.
The deal involves an initial investment of €2.5 million through a convertible loan, with the option to double the commitment up to a total of €5 million. The partnership between the two companies was already launched with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in December 2023, which has led to tangible outcomes, including the awarding of three projects within the National Underwater Dimension Hub, focused on the development of advanced underwater communication technologies.
The two companies are also working together on additional national and EU-funded tenders, as well as on joint commercial initiatives. With this move, Fincantieri strengthens its position in the underwater technology sector, considered strategic also in a dual-use perspective. The investment in WSense is part of the group’s broader strategy of innovation and digitalization, aimed at securing critical technologies for the protection and surveillance of maritime infrastructure. Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and General Manager of Fincantieri, emphasized that this operation confirms the group’s commitment to pioneering solutions in shipbuilding and underwater defense. Chiara Petrioli, CEO of WSense, also expressed satisfaction, describing Fincantieri’s entry as a recognition of the strategic value of the scale-up’s technologies, and as a growth catalyst for the company’s industrial and commercial development.
