TRIESTE – A new cement traffic is expected to start within a couple of months at the port of Trieste.

The current plan involves handling approximately 120,000 tons per year thanks to an agreement between a company belonging to the Samer Group and the Turkish company Medcem, which has established an Italian branch (Novada Cement srl). The operations will take place at the quay along the navigable Zaule Canal, in the southern section of the port, under concession to Seadock.

So far, the investment has been significant, with €3.5 million spent to upgrade the silo located near the canal. If the incoming vessels are equipped with self-discharging systems, the underground pipelines connecting the silo to the quay will be used; otherwise, an external unit will be required, potentially supplied by Novada Cement itself. Additional traffic may also be developed in the future, again in cooperation with the Turkish group, using conventional vessels and handling different types of cargo.
