TRIESTE – A new container service has recently started between Egypt (Abu Kir port) and the terminals of Trieste, Koper and Rijeka. The service, called “Hadria” and launched by MSC, currently deploys two vessels with capacities of 2,700 and 4,000 TEUs respectively. The rotation includes calls at Abu Kir (Alexandria, Egypt), Trieste, Koper, Rijeka, Gioia Tauro, and back to Abu Kir.

These containerships will carry cargo that, until a few months ago, reached the Northern Adriatic under the 2M alliance between MSC and Maersk. Today, ocean-going vessels stop in Egypt, and a maxi-feeder service delivers the cargo to ports serving the Central and Eastern European markets. The reshuffling of container services at the beginning of 2025 has also influenced the choices of Maersk, which is now supplying the Northern Adriatic via Port Said using the Gemini service’s feeder “antennae”.
