TRIESTE – The Province of Bolzano is participating in the EU initiative “European Clean Transport Corridor” with a pilot project along the Brenner axis.
“Our shared goal is to pave the way for zero-emission road mobility,” emphasized Daniel Alfreider, Provincial Councillor for Mobility.
The European Commission’s project aims to promote clean transport corridors, and South Tyrol plays an important role in this framework through the Brenner route. This is why representatives from the provincial administration also took part in the recent online conference.

For Provincial Councillor Alfreider, the goal is clear: “We want to create a Brenner Green Corridor. This starts with the modal shift of heavy traffic to rail, and also includes zero-emission road mobility as an essential measure.” The online meeting, held on April 15, brought together representatives from the regions along the Brenner axis and highway infrastructure operators.

To move closer to the objective, the European Commission intends to support the rapid development of charging hubs for heavy-duty vehicles along the main corridors of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), in two phases. In the first phase, existing and planned charging infrastructure projects for trucks along the Brenner Corridor will be mapped to assess the current state and identify any gaps. The second phase will provide support for the implementation of these infrastructure projects. Selected projects will be fast-tracked in terms of planning, approval, and funding.
