TRIESTE – A high-profile European recognition for the Port Authority of Trieste, which secured second place at the 2025 European Innovation Procurement Awards in Brussels.

Promoted under the Horizon Europe programme by the European Innovation Council, the award highlights best practices in innovation-oriented public procurement. The award was granted to the POSIDON project, aimed at developing and awarding a pre-commercial procurement contract for the environmental remediation of disused industrial sites, involving two highly polluted areas: the Noghere Valley (Municipality of Muggia) and the Zorrozaurre peninsula in Bilbao.

Thanks to POSIDON, it was possible to test newly patented, market-ready technologies capable of going beyond the current state of the art in the in-situ remediation of soils contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbons and heavy metals. The project also involved the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, which played a central role in the national authorization process, and benefited from the scientific coordination of Area Science Park.
