TRIESTE – Last weekend, the Highway Police of Friuli Venezia Giulia stepped up enforcement along the motorway network of Friuli Venezia Giulia and eastern Veneto, with a particular focus on freight transport vehicles.
Among the violations recorded — including overloading, breaches related to hazardous materials, and non-compliance with driving and rest times — several offenses were identified, confirming the need to maintain strong oversight in this strategically important sector for road safety.

The Trieste Highway Police Department deployed 68 patrol units along more than 500 kilometers of highways, from the A23 Alpe Adria near Ugovizza to the A4 junction at Portogruaro, covering key points such as Trieste Lisert and Villesse. The operation had a dual goal: to crack down on unsafe driving behavior and ensure effective territorial control.

In detail, 544 individuals and 358 vehicles were checked. A total of 200 violations of the Highway Code were reported, including 11 for speeding, 4 for driving under the influence, 11 for lack of vehicle inspection, 10 for not wearing seat belts, and 6 for improper use of mobile phones while driving. Police confiscated 17 driver’s licenses and 4 vehicle registration documents, with a total of 307 demerit points assigned.

The operation specifically targeted freight transport, with 20 violations for overloading, 3 for non-compliance with hazardous materials regulations, 37 for irregular driving and rest times, 10 related to exceptional transports, and 6 violations of international freight transport regulations.
During one of the inspections, officers from the Palmanova Highway Police executed a detention order against a Romanian citizen who was driving a freight vehicle registered in Slovenia.

“Checks will continue to be scheduled regularly to ensure increasingly higher safety standards,” the Highway Police announced.
