TRIESTE – The first train from the inland terminal of Škrljevo, near the Port of Rijeka, departed recently for Niš, Serbia.
Official details on the train’s weekly frequency, length, and projected container volume have not yet been released.
This initiative, the result of collaboration between private operators and public entities, aims to expand the terminal’s rail connectivity in support of the Port of Rijeka, which is seeking intermodal solutions to serve key markets in Eastern Europe and the Balkans.
“This milestone marks a significant step in expanding our terminal’s capacity and reinforces our commitment to promoting rail freight as a sustainable and efficient logistics solution. As part of our long-term strategy, we aim to encourage and stimulate rail shipments to better connect land cargo with major European destinations,” Luka Rijeka (the port operating company) wrote on its social media channels.
