Coronavirus Italy: the Port of trieste remains operational

TRIESTE - The International Port of Trieste and its European logistics system continue to operate normally, in spite of the global spread of the coronavirus emergency.

«First of all, we want to thank workers, the whole port community and all those working everyday on the front lines in the port and in all the companies of our logistics system» remarks Zeno D'Agostino, president of the Port Authority. «There is no reason to stop operations: ships from the Mediterranean basin and the Far East continue to call at our port, even though a re-organization of oceanic freight services has been properly implemented. Also railway and intermodal services connecting Trieste to its international hinterland (up to 10 countries) are still operating, providing optimal and efficient solutions to avoid cross-border checks on drivers along European roads. Oceanic shipping services in Trieste, directly connecting Trieste to the Eastern Mediterranean regions, Middle East and Far East are operated by key global alliances (Ocean Alliance and 2M), while daily direct Ro-Ro services operate between Trieste and several Turkish ports. Daily fast railway services - both for containers and Ro-Ro units, as swapbodies and semitrailers - connect the Port of Trieste with 13 countries and several key European intermodal hubs, such as Munich, Wien, Budapest, Bettembourg, Duisburg, Ostrava and Dunajska Streda».
Finally, the Port of Trieste, through its Free Port special status, is able to offer long term storage opportunities to cargos that, due to the coronavirus emergency, cannot be accepted by final receivers.
