Trieste, new technologies for intermodal: on the way the COMODALCE project
TRIESTE - "Enhancing COordination on multiMODAL freight transport in CE". This is the meaning of the acronym Comodalce, a project co-financed by the Interreg Central Europe Program, which is led by The Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea.
The objective of the participants - the main European ports and interports such as La Spezia, Koper, Rostock, Gdynia, Verona and Budapest - is to make intermodal transport more efficient and competitive through the adoption of innovative technologies. The total budget is 1,960,000 Euro, of which 281,000 are in favor of the Trieste Authority, while the duration will be 36 months. After analyzing the current situation, the project partners will develop medium and long-term development plans that will be implemented using new technologies and data exchange between the different systems. Once applied, the innovations will make the freight transport by train more efficient, facilitating the modal shift from road to rail, with consequent positive effects in terms of emissions of polluting gases and CO2.
