Port of Monfalcone, dredging the seabed to accommodate larger ships

MONFALCONE – In the last few days, excavations have begun in the access channel to the Port of Monfalcone, in order to grant access to the docks to larger ships.

The maintenance interventions amount to 1.2 million euros and, at this stage, they will cover the most important moorings of the quay, whose depth will reach 11.70 meters. The interventions will take place without disrupting the Port business operations and the removed material will be relocated within the port area, close to the breakwater. In order to guarantee the protection of the marine environment and avoid a dispersion of sediments, special floating booms will be used to delimit the areas affected by such dredging operations, and a constant monitoring of the water mirror concerned by the works will verify their compliance with the turbidity limits. The interventions are directed by the Special Authority for the Port of Monfalcone, with the collaboration of the Interregional Board of Public Works of Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia.
