Port of Trieste, digital railway management through the Sinfomar platform

TRIESTE - The Port Network Authority of the Port of Trieste has activated new modules of Sinfomar digital system, in order to control the operations and authorizations of railway movements.

Such innovation marks another step towards the digital transformation planned by the Authority to integrate the maneuver performed by Adriafer – a company that handles the movement of trains inside the Port – and set up the processes of the railway "last mile". The movement of trains has been equated to that of ships, therefore managing, with some differences, the customs, logistic and security rules through the automatic generation of the documents of arrival and departure of trains. In this way, the digital transformation process of the Port of Trieste continues with Sinfomar, the Port community system whose aim is to connect the entire port community in a single technological platform and to optimize the procedure management.
Thanks to the commitment of the Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea – from shipping agents to shippers, from terminal operators to transporters, from the Customs Agency to the Port Authority, from the Guardia di Finanza (Financial Guard) to the Maritime Health Service and railway companies – all the stakeholders of the port community can rely on Sinfomar since 2014. It was created to connect all administrative, tax, customs and logistics procedures in a single technological platform, by integrating the information on maritime, inland and railway traffics.
«Digitization is one of the most important challenges for the Port of Trieste and the ports of the future – stated Zeno D'Agostino, president of the Authority – We have made our port one of the most advanced in Italy and Europe, by computerizing all activities both on the sea side and on the land side. The digitization of all the operational part of the trains within the port is the new step we stand out for, and it is what makes Sinfomar an extraordinary model. This is a great advantage for a port that has handled more than 8,500 trains in 2017 and which foresees 10,000 by the end of the year».
