From Monfalcone the structures for the new Bayonne Bridge of New York
MONFALCONE - The loading operations of the new structures of the Bayonne Bridge of New York will be curated by CPM (Compagnia Portuale di Monfalcone) in Portorosega. The raising of the Bayonne Bridge will make the navigation of the Kill Van Kull (the straits between Staten Island and Bayonne) possible for the new mega containerships.
The structures, built by Cimolai S.p.a., will be loaded today on the “Florijingracht”, the vessel owned by the Dutch “Spliethoff”. The regular service between the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the North America and the Great Lakes. The works, whose cost is about one billion dollars, will increase the height of the bridge from 46 metres (151 feet) to 65.53 metres (215 feet) in order to permit the access of the megaships to the Port of New York and New Jersey.
