Trieste-Shimizu, collaboration between the ports begins
TRIESTE - Last week in Japan, a draft of the collaboration agreement between Trieste’s port authority and authorities of the Shimizu harbour was defined by local institutions of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region and respectively the Shizuoka region authority. The agreement follows a mission guided by FVG Region and Trieste’s Port authority.
The first step of the collaboration will involve organizing an event with the scope to illustrate the opportunities offered by both ports of call with the objective to increase traffic and develop new growth opportunities. In addition to the structural similarities which tie Shimizu and the Port of Trieste, it must be noted that the Prefecture area of Shizuoka is known for its high productivity while also hosting industries leading firms such as Honda Motors, Toyota, Suzuki and Yamaha.
During the visit, the Port director of Shizimu, Tetsuya Fujinami reminded that the port of call’s moved containers, reached 429.651 TEU in 2015 attributed mainly to both its terminals with depth of 12 and 15 meters of which one is equipped to handle RO-RO ships. There is also in the harbour area, a large liquid gas deposit as well as silos for agricultural proceeds. Following the visit of the harbour area, a technical meeting was held with the vice governor of transportation of the Shizimu prefecture, Kyoji Namba and an encounter with governor Heita Kawakatsu, who emphasized on the will to continue towards a concrete collaboration between ports.
