Port of Trieste strengthens intermodal network with Austria
TRIESTE - A strengthening of the intermodal system of the Port of Trieste started last week. Thanks to the collaboration among Alpe Adria, TO Delta and Rail Cargo Operator, a set of intermodal services to Austria is now available.
In particular, it consists of a a full train service – which from Trieste triangulates Vienna and Linz with 2 circulations per week –, a direct train between Trieste and Vienna (one circulation per week), a direct service that connects Trieste and Salzburg (2 circulations per week) andand an ad-hoc “single-wagon” system connecting Wolfurt, Salzburg, Linz and Vienna when additional volumes are requested.
«In recent weeks, our attention has been focused to local production companies as well» explains the president of the Port Network Authority, Zeno D’Agostino. Another logistic solution adopted was to use the railway to move maritime traffic – through a train connection already operating in the Czech Republic on behalf of DFDS (a Danish logistics and shipowning group active in the Port of Trieste) – with industrial volumes that, due to the closure of borders, were unable to be managed via road transport. In this way, it was possible to forward intermodal units with industrial volumes to the Czech Republic, together with semitrailers and swap bodies from Ro-Ro ships managed by DFDS.
