Port of Trieste, new investments in railways. The interest of China is confirmed

TRIESTE - The project to reactivate an important railway station and the confirmation that Chinese intend to exploit the Port of Trieste to reach a part of European territory - these are the latest news about the Port of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

The Chinese Ambassador Li Ruiyu stated it during an interview with the news agency Agi, just when the italian Minister of Economy e Finance, Giovanni Tria, was making an official visit to China. «The Port of Trieste is located near the northeastern border of Italy and it constitutes an important access to the north of the Adriatic - a very favorable position. Since last year, the president of Assoporti and the president of the Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea, Zeno D'Agostino, has visited China twice. He has met the representatives of China Communications Construction and other Chinese companies, discussing port infrastructure and cooperation. China has in turn organized study missions at the port of Trieste». These are the words of Li Ruiyu that synthesize the scenario in which public and private investments in the port infrastructures of Trieste move.
In this regard, the president of the Authority of Trieste, Zeno D'Agostino, has announced his wish to make the railway station of Aquilinia operational again, in collaboration with the Ferrovie dello Stato. The funding (some tens of millions of euro) would have already been found. In the meantime, the executive planning of the new layout of the main station (Campo Marzio) has begun. In this case, about 80 million euros have already been allocated by various institutions. The preparatory work may already start within the year.
