The Port of Trieste is among the objectives of the agreement between Mercitalia and Polish PKP Cargo

TRIESTE - Developing rail freight transport between Italy and Poland with new services on the Baltic-Adriatic TEN-T Rail Corridor.

This is the main goal of the strategic alliance signed in recent days in Krynica, Poland, between Mercitalia Rail (FS Group Italiane) and the Polish company PKP Cargo (PKP Group). The signature took place during the Economer Forum 2018. «This agreement is particularly important for the strategic positioning of the Mercitalia Polo - said Gian Paolo Gotelli, CEO of Mercitalia Rail -. We do not have operational overlaps with the PKP Group and we will be able to collaborate intensively to develop new services on the Baltic-Adriatic Railway Corridor, both for intermodal traffic, in considerable growth from and to the Port of Trieste, and for conventional ones. We will therefore be able to interact with a strong partner not only in Poland, but also in the Czech Republic».
In the coming months Mercitalia Rail, the largest Italian freight railway company and one of the largest in Europe, will create a working group with representatives of the two companies to define the lines of collaboration.
