Port of Monfalcone: New investments to improve competitiveness and efficiency
MONFALCONE - Today was first day at work for the new crane recently acquired by CPM. The Liebherr LHM 550 with a 150 Ton max. capacity and a 54 meter reach, is capable of 120 meters per minute lift speed.
The use of the new crane will be dedicated in particular, to cargos containing raw cellulose materials, project cargos (special loads) and metallurgical related loads. With this new machine CPM hopes to improve up to 20-30% of the workflow output. Thanks to Compagnia Portuale’s large equipment and vehicle fleet, it can better satisfy the needs related to any type of cargo. The railroad infrastructure is amongst one of the many advantages the port offers, boasting a total of 8 tracks, in addition to specialized equipment and personnel for its railway services. A 40.000 square meter inland terminal with 10 railway tracks, is also managed by CPM and is located at 500 meters from the port.
“This investment is further demonstration of TO Delta and CPM’s will to invest in the territory”, explained TO Delta’s CEO, Fabrizio Zerbini and CPM’s CEO, Andrea Valentinuzzi. With 2.5 million tons of goods, CPM is Monfalcone’s Port, first operator destined to integrate its operations with Trieste’s Port and become part of the Oriental Adriatic Sea port authority system.
