China construction interested in the Port of Trieste: Waiting for a delegation to evaluate investments
TRIESTE - China Communications Construction Company Limited (Cccc) is interested in the Port of Trieste: there will be soon a visit by a Chinese delegation to evaluate the investment hypothesis.
The news was released after the meeting in Beijing (China) in the past few days between Zeno D’Agostino – President of the Port Network Authority of Trieste –, Debora Serracchiani – President of the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia – and the top management of the company. China Communications Construction Company Limited (Cccc) is the largest engineering and port construction company in China, the largest in Asia and the third group in the infrastructure sector in the world. In recent years, Cccc has proved to be one of the most active construction companies within the Belt and Road Initiative, becoming one of the world's leading contractors.
As declared by Sun Ziyu (Vice-President of Cccc), the company "looks with great interest" to the development plan of Trieste, due to the two-digit increase in data traffic of the port, its advantages related to accessibility and to the Free Port regime, as well as to the high intermodality – the goal in 2018 of the Port Authority is to reach 250 trains a week – that allows to carry cargo all over Europe, from Belgium to Hungary. Sun pointed out that the group is looking for opportunities for an integrated presence, addressed to construction as well as to infrastructure management, in Italy, a market defined as "extremely important."
Wang Jingchun, President of Cccc International, was also present during the meeting. He was identified by Vice President Sun as a contact to rely on for an in-depth analysis of a specific project from which to start together with the Authority, in order to contribute to the great project of the Silk Road.
